The project consisted of the construction of a $30 million heavy vehicle diversion road in Ravensthorpe and involved 3.5km of new alignment, intersection works to tie with the existing highway, as well as upgrades to the existing main street of Ravensthorpe. The diversion was required to reduce problems caused by heavy vehicle travelling through the centre of the town, along South Coast Highway and facing a 150 steep hill.
NRW Holdings commenced construction works in January 2015 utilising local Earthworks contractors from Ravensthorpe and surrounding towns. Pavement stabilisation began 2 November and finished 20 November. The asphalt began during the first week of December, and signs & guideposts were installed during December. The heavy haulage route was officially opened by the Minister for Transport on Monday 21 December 2015.
The improvements to the main street through Ravensthorpe commenced in November 2016 and works are near completion.
