Esperance Port Access Corridor
Main Roads WA awarded a Design and Construct contract to John Holland Pty Ltd on 21 March 2012 to undertake a major upgrade of the Esperance Port Access Corridor. Construction started in the last quarter of 2012 and the project was completed in April 2014.
The design concept for the Esperance Port Access Corridor Project was developed following extensive community and stakeholder consultation. It also took into account the outcomes of a study into options for the port's future expansion.
The design focused on the corridor south of Pink Lake Road and combined several key improvements supported by the community and other stakeholders.
It supported the port and general development of the town and region removing some of the conflict between freight and local traffic and providing a more efficient road network for the Esperance community. The new bridge linking Twilight Beach Road with The Esplanade, along with a section of the realigned Harbour Road, was opened to traffic on the weekend of the 15-16 February 2014, signalling the end of conflict between port, local road and rail traffic.
