As part of the GEDC’s quarterly staff meeting, Esperance-based historian Karli Florisson presented a fascinating insight into the economic development of the region. Presenting from the Esperance Museum, Karli explored how significant historical projects failed due to lack of understanding of the climate and regional landscape - the reverberations of this were felt across the Goldfields-Esperance region, leading to significant investment in the area being abandoned when projects failed to eventuate.

Shire of Esperance Manager of Economic Development, Trevor Ayers, provided a briefing to GEDC staff about the Esperance Museum and Cultural Precinct, explaining how the Shire’s proposed development will acknowledge Esperance’s past while delivering the assets and amenities required by the community and visitors well into the future. The project will create a bold new cultural facility adjacent to the Museum on James Street, with a Visitor Centre, new community library, specialised Museum exhibition spaces, and community and retail space for indoor and outdoor events.
