Regional Grants Scheme invests $1.6 million in Goldfields-Esperance Region

A total of $1.6 million will be invested over the next two years in the Goldfields-Esperance region as part of the latest round of the Goldfields-Esperance Regional Grants Scheme (GERGS). The Minister for Regional Development, Hon Terry Redman MLA, today announced the successful applicants from the 2016 Regional Grants Scheme which closed on 17 March 2016.
Made possible by the State Government’s Royalties for Regions program, administered by the Goldfields-Esperance Development Commission (GEDC), this initiative aims to improve economic and community infrastructure and services in regional Western Australia.

The GERGS funding has been made available to assist with the development of infrastructure, services and community projects across the Goldfields-Esperance region. This includes the establishment of services and programs that will support the development of resilient communities and contribute to regional areas being vibrant and interesting places to live.

GEDC Chairperson, Tony Crook, said “It is fantastic to see the benefits of Royalties for Regions funding continuing to flow into the Goldfields-Esperance region. A total of 10 Goldfields-Esperance projects will benefit from the GERGS funding and include great community initiatives such as the replacement of the Esperance Volunteer Marine Rescue Vessel, support for the Wilurarra social enterprise salon in Warburton and Gwalia Headframe Restoration near Leonora”.

The GEDC received 22 Goldfields-Esperance Regional Grant Scheme applications seeking in excess of $3.9 million in funding to support project to the total value of $10.9 million.

Goldfields Esperance Regional Grant Scheme recipients include:

  • Esperance Volunteer Sea Search and Rescue Group Inc. - $300,000.00 towards New Rescue Vessel
  • Goldfields Individual and Family Support Assoc.  Inc. - $135,000.00 towards engagement of a Behaviours Support Consultant
  • Shire of Leonora - $300,000.00 towards restoration works for Sons of Gwalia headframe
  • Wilurarra Creative, Warburton Community Inc. - $266,600.00 towards establishment of a Social Enterprise Salon in Warburton Community
  • Life Without Barriers - $77,620.00 – towards Return to Country bush camps for at risk youth
  • Kalgoorlie-Boulder Urban Landcare Group - $108,939.78 towards an Eco-Education Centre for Karlkurla Bushland Park
  • Arts and Culture Goldfields Assoc. (Artgold) – $120,000.00 towards  Heartwalk, a two year public art project to assist in revitalisation of CKB in Kalgoorlie
  • Royal Flying Doctor Service Australia - $101,981.00 towards essential medical equipment for Kalgoorlie base and aircraft
  • St Johns Ambulance Kambalda Sub-Centre - $130,932.00 towards upgrades to the centre
  • Ravensthorpe Progress Association - $87,423.36 towards Streetscape Art project
