Chair of the Goldfields-Esperance Development Commission (GEDC) Jon Price said the project would benefit the whole Northern Goldfields community.
“In the past, delivery of services to the region has been hampered by the lack of suitable office accommodation” he said. “The proposed development, auspiced by the Shire of Leonora, will provide a co-located, fully supported office space for a range of locally based and visiting government, non government and non profit service providers who deliver health and social services in the Northern Goldfields region”.
While the Shire of Leonora is the most appropriate site for regional infrastructure, as it is geographically located as the hub of the region and houses the largest population, other regional communities to benefit from the project include Leinster, Laverton, Menzies and Wiluna.
CEO of the GEDC, Norman Baker, said the Shire of Leonora had presented a well documented business case to the Goldfields-Esperance Revitalisation Fund Advisory Council, which led to State Cabinet approval. “The new building, scheduled to open in mid 2016, is testimony to the importance of Royalties for Regions funding to regional areas.” he added.
